If you sleep on your stomach or your side, try sleeping on your back or propped up with pillows behind your back. You will sleep this way for a few days after breast enhancement surgery, so you may as well get used to the position.
Tell your surgeon if you think you might get your period around the time of your breast enlargement surgery. Some surgeons prefer not to do the breast enhancement surgery during your menstrual cycle and your surgeon might want to reschedule.
Be sure you give your doctor a list of all of your routine medications. Anything you take frequently or daily, like insulin, heart medicine, medicine to treat blood pressure, or depression, should be on the list you give to your surgeon
Don’t take aspirin or blood thinners for 14-30 days before your breast enlargement surgery, unless your doctor tells you to keep taking these medications. If you take vitamins or other herbal supplements, ask your doctor if you can keep taking these until the day of your operation.
The week before your breast enhancement surgery:
Do your grocery shopping and laundry so that you don’t have to lift or pull anything when you come home from the hospital. Change the bed linens so you don’t have to struggle to change your bed while you are healing from your breast enhancement surgery.
When you go grocery shopping be sure you buy some lighter foods to eat in case you aren’t up to eating a large meal. Crackers, soup, Jello, and other lighter meals and snacks are good options. Consider cooking and freezing some things in advance, so you don’t have to cook or wash a lot of pots after your breast enhancement surgery.
Buy soft ice packs you can freeze or have an ice bag on hand to put on your breasts. This will help with the swelling and discomfort after your breast enlargement surgery. Be sure to follow your doctor’s instructions regarding swelling, and icing and how often you can apply compresses, etc.
Drink a lot of water for at least a week before your breast enhancement surgery. Drinking 8-10 glasses of water per day is a good idea to help hydrate your body and avoid severe nausea from general anesthesia following breast enlargement surgery.
The day before your surgery:
Don’t drink alcohol or smoke for at least 24 hours before your breast enlargement surgery. Your doctor will tell you when he wants you to stop eating and drinking before your breast enhancement surgery (usually from midnight on, the night before).Remove all finger nail polish and jewelry.
Take loose-fitting clothing to the hospital to wear home after the surgery. Blouses or sweaters that button or zip up the front are best, so that you don’t have raise your arms.
Be sure the person who is going to drive you home from the hospital remembers that they have committed to this task. If you can, arrange to have a friend stay with you at home for a day or two after the breast enhancement surgery so you don’t have to lift or strain yourself.
The day before surgery, take a shower and wash your hair. If you shave under your arms, be sure you do not nick yourself. Do not put oil or cream on the skin of your chest, breasts, neck or underarms.
On the day of your breast enhancement surgery:
Before you go to the hospital, remove makeup, creams, oils, jewelry and finger nail polish.
When you get to the hospital, talk to your surgeon again to confirm the anesthesia you want, the kind of implant or enhancement you want, and the size of your breasts after the surgery is completed. This will ensure that there are no mistakes or misunderstandings.
Be sure you ask your doctor for any special instructions you have to follow after the operation. How should you do if you get nauseous after the surgery? How should you treat swelling around the breasts and the chest wall? Can you get a prescription for pain medication? How often should take this medication?
How soon can you eat after the breast enhancement surgery and what kind of food can you eat? What can you take for constipation if it occurs? When can you take a shower or bath, and how should you care for dressings and incisions? When do you have to go to his office for a follow-up appointment? When does he want you to call him? What kinds of problems or symptoms should be of concern to you?
If you spend a month preparing for your breast enhancement surgery, you can relax and recover with confidence.
